Adam Lewis - Programme Controller (Charity Trustee)

I started with HFM when I was just 15 years old! Back then, we were using mainly vinyl and reel-to-reel with the addition of a shiny new computer donated to us by the BBC. Little did we know as time went on the grams and tape decks would disappear and computers would take over. In fact, it’s thanks to computers that we are able now to be on air 24 hours a day seven days a week. When I joined, things were a lot different here at Harefield Towers. We started off with shows broadcast live every weekday evening from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. with BBC Radio 2 being played at all other times. Now, we are able to broadcast specific shows and repeats of shows on the 24/7 basis and have full control over the output. Technology has really helped us!
Volunteering here have me great training and a great kickstart to working in the radio industry. Thanks to my training and work at Harefield, I have since been able to work in the radio industry for over 14 years now, working as a researcher, producer, voice-over artist and presenter. I have been station voice on radio stations, both here in the UK as well as the USA and other European countries and have hosted shows and been syndicated on radio stations all over the world! My voice has been used by companies such as the Sony Corporation, Kellogg’s and LG just to mention a few, and it was all thanks to the start I got at HFM.
Sadly though, HFM is staffed by volunteers and we need more help! If you think you may be able to help us in any way, e-mail us today. I hope your stay in Harefield Hospital isn’t too unpleasant and that we can help you on the road to recovery.
I hope that you enjoy our vast selection of shows!
